The social economy

The social economy is an alternative to the conventional economy. This form of the economy is not exclusively based on a profit-making rationale, but on various principles, including the following:

  • management autonomy in relation to public authorities
  • people and labour taking priority over capital when redistributing profits
  • the ultimate aim of serving members and the community, rather than profit
  • a democratic decision-making process
