Consultative Committee - mandatory face masks, Covid Safe Ticket and teleworking in the fight against the autumn wave

Today, the Consultative Committee has discussed the epidemiological situation. An extension of the mandatory use of face masks, the Covid Safe Ticket and teleworking should slow down the increased virus circulation.

Virus circulation has increased considerably in recent weeks, due in part to the higher number of contacts and more indoor activities. An average of 5,300 new infections are recorded every day - an increase of more than 70% compared to last week.

Consultative Committee determines federal basis for face mask requirement

Today, the Consultative Committee has discussed the epidemiological situation. Given the large differences in vaccination coverage, the Consultative Committee has opted for a differentiated approach. The Committee has established that the number of new infections is stabilising. After a period of slow increase, last week hospital admissions also started declining for the first time since early July. Yet there are big differences. In Flanders, there is a decreasing incidence, in Wallonia, a slight increase and in Brussels, a stabilisation of the infection rates at a high level.

Provided that the number of beds in intensive care occupied by COVID-19 patients continues to trend towards a maximum of 500 and that the vaccination campaign continues as planned, the Summer Plan will involve four important steps.

Step 1. From 9 June 2021
