To ensure your safety on the road, all vehicles must be roadworthy. Vehicle inspections determine whether your vehicle meets all legal requirements. Various parts, such as the brakes, lights, chassis and seatbelts, are checked during an inspection.
You are responsible for the cost of the inspection. Should your vehicle fail an inspection, you must rectify any problems and have the vehicle inspected again. Both the first and second inspections take place at the same inspection centre.
How often you need to have your vehicle inspected depends on the vehicle and the circumstances. There are two types of inspection:
• Periodic inspections take place at set intervals. For example: vehicles over four years old must be inspected every year.
• Non-periodic inspections are held under certain circumstances rather than at predetermined times.
For example: your vehicle must be inspected if you are putting it back on the road.
