On 8 May, we commemorate the heroes of World War II #wewillmeetagain

Between 1 and 8 May 2020, we will commemorate the end of the Second World War together with the War Heritage Institute. A war that claimed the lives of 60 million people, with about 90.000 casualties in Belgium.

The national commemoration will take place on May 8th at 23.01 hrs. Put a picture of your hero in a cosy spot in your house, garden or on your balcony. Light a candle and stand by them for a while. You can also read something or play some music.

And to make it all even more memorable, singer Selah Sue will also share her commemoration with us at 23.01 hrs! This is sure to give you goose bumps, so follow us on the War Heritage Institute Facebook page.

As many planned commemorations cannot take place at the moment, they are now taking place online. You can post a photo with a story about someone from the Second World War you think is important at the War Heritage Institute's Facebook event. This could be someone from your family who was fighting or who was deported, a resistance hero from your local municipality or a historical figure you want to commemorate. Don't forget to use the hashtag #wewillmeetagain.
