Awareness Campaign on Antimicrobial Resistance
The excessive or incorrect use of antibiotics, antiviral agents, antifungals, or antiparasitics can lead to bacteria developing resistance to these medications. This phenomenon, known as antimicrobial resistance (AMR), poses a significant threat to the health of both humans and animals.
The FPS Public Health in Belgium is therefore relaunching a campaign aimed at raising awareness not only among consumers/patients but also among healthcare professionals. The goal is to prompt individuals to reflect on their use of antimicrobial substances (particularly antibiotics) and to foster a dialogue between patients and their doctors, veterinarians, dentists, or pharmacists. By discussing antibiotics, we can strive for a reduction and improvement in the use of these medications and combat resistance.
In this context, the campaign website letstalkantibiotics.be has been created, focusing on people's questions to healthcare professionals regarding the correct use of antibiotics. Additionally, you will find information about the national action plan "One Health" and clarification of misunderstandings surrounding antibiotics.
